college

Post by gatrosk » Mon Aug 24, 2009 6:32 pm

So here I am at my first day of college. Just wanted to hear everyone's thoughts on their college experience, any advice, personal experiences, etc. would be awesome to share. ^_^

.. and just straight up discussing works to. ;)

my advice is this: don't procrastinate. that shit will get you nowhere. i know from experience.

for me, college is kind of exciting at first, but i get tired of it real quick. even now, i'll be starting back next week after being out for a year, and i'm kind of excited about it. but i can almost guarantee that by the end of first day i'll be wishing it was over already.

It was 3 years of my life wasted, and it learned me nothing. A lot of work and money too. I was in year 3 with the art classes. Got kicked out cause i failed art history from the first year 3 times in a row. I just cant remember everything in 2 10cm books with uninteresting art bullshit, sorry. They promised a lot too, but it turned out we were a 'test year'. So most courses and methods were completely off or got canceled the next year.

For art college, i'd recommend a GOOD college with decent funds for art supplies, decent teachers and actual courses that help you get professional skills. Or where actual artists came from.

Otherwise don't even bother, you can just aswell find a job, practice on your own and save the money, that's what i should have done.

Thanks guys, and rabid, that's a great movie. ^_^

I'm really pumped for classes to get started because from the course outline it sounds like it's going to be a blast this semester, can't wait to get started.
I get to start learning about 3d studio max or something like that, 3d animation software basically. So that's exciting.

Unfortunately, since I'm going to a tech college a majority of my classmates are older than me. -_- I think I might be the youngest kiddo at that school. Hopefully I can still make some friends and have fun tho.

I can't help but feel this particular post was rather bland.

I'm currently attending Madison Area Technical College, aka MATC for you acronym enthusiasts out there.
I absolutely love the teachers, I feel like I will be able to learn a lot from them. My yesterday morning class teacher is like a 13 year vet of the industry. He's worked at Raven software, Human Head studios, and id. He also started his own and ran that for a couple of years, but he didn't mention the name of that one.
My afternoon teacher has taught all these god-like animators from all of the place. A couple of his students were the founders of Raven software, and he taught the lead animator at Human Head.
So I'm pretty excited to get my game on here.
