New forum coming soon! (phpBB2 -> phpBB3)

Post by FirstBorn » Fri Jul 17, 2009 3:52 pm

Hi everyone,

This weekend I hope to install phpBB3. The newest version of this forum. So sometime this weekend, the forum will be down for a few minutes (or more). The people of phpBB3 also created a tool to save all current messages and members from your old forum (read: this forum) to the new forum. So don't worry, all your accounts and messages will not be lost. ^_^

I'll keep you guys updated.

Regards,
Rene

I finally figured it out. My provider build in a timeout and phpBB3 needs longer to install then the server timeout. :-(

So I need to backup this forum to my local computer, update it and then reupload it. *sigh* I'll keep you posted!

So basically, this is what I have to do:

1) Make sure no-one can enter the current board and redirect them to a nice page saying "Sorry, upgrading!".
2) Copy the current forum to my local machine
3) Backup the database to my local machine
4) Install phpBB3 to my local machine
5) Convert the old forum to phpBB3
6) Upload the new forum to the server
7) Upload the new database (most difficult part)
8) Remove the "Sorry, upgrading!" message

This process will take around 1.5 hours. I'll get on it as soon as possible.
