MangaWorkshop FAQ :: The Answers

About Mangaworkshop

1.1 What is Mangaworkshop?
Mangaworkshop.net is a website for amateur manga artists. After regestering, you can upload your artwork and receive comments from other artist on how to improve your artwork. If you feel like you can't learn anything from these comments, visit the forum and put your art there. The people at the forum will examine your artwork and provide you with usefull comments and tips, but your artwork will be looked at very critically. The comments you'll receive here may sound offending to some, but we never mean it that way.

Furthermore, Mangaworkshop is not an art archive. To enforce this statement, Mangaworkshop has a 80 picture upload limit in total and the maximum filesize of these pictures is 350 Kb.

1.2 What is the abbreviation of Mangaworkshop? MWN or MWS?
It used to be MWN which stands for MangaWorkshop.Net. But since Mangaworkshop was a succes I wanted to have all the important domainnames (.com, .net and .org) and when I got them all, the N in MWN wasn't necessary anymore, so I changed it to MWS which stands for MangaWorkShop. The right abbreviation to use is MWS.

1.3 I would like to become a affilliate. Could you put my button on the frontpage?
Depends. Please contact me at webmaster@mangaworkshop.net and we will talk about it.

1.4 Who is in the Mangaworkshop team?
From September 2001 till April 2003, Mangaworkshop was a one-man-show. I did get some help from my close friend Chris, but after the design was finished, he stepped out. At April 2003 Mangaworkshop grew beyond my controle and I had to point out some moderators, but all the graphical design and programming up to this point were and still are done souly by one person. Me. Current moderators are: Raptoe, MiNi, Def Character and Dustin C..

2. About uploading art

2.1 How do I upload art?
First you have to register. Then press the "login" link at the topleft of the screen. A pop-up will appear and ask you for your loginname and password. Remember! Loginnames and passwords are case-sensitive. This means that the systems makes a difference between smaller case letters and upper case letters. Next follow the instructions on screen on how to upload your artwork.

2.2 How do I register?
Press the "register" link at the top of the screen and follow the instructions on screen.

2.3 Can I upload erotic pictures/pictures with lots of blood?
Mangaworkshop has many members ranging from all age categories. We like to keep the site viewable for all ages. This includes the young ones. One is allowed to post pictures which contain just mild nudity or a just a little blood, but you must put a warning on your thumbnail. You can do so by checking the "Nudity / Blood/ 18+ Warning" checkbox while uploading your artwork. If the moderators find pictures without a proper warning, or with too much nudity or blood/violence, the picture will be deleted and the artist will receive a warning.

2.4 Can I upload artwork from other artists?
No. You can only upload your own artwork or artwork you've done with others. For example, you drew the artwork and a friend colored it. You may not upload artwork from other (famous) artists in any form.

2.5 Can I upload non-manga artwork?
No. Only manga-styled artwork is allowed. If you're not sure about your style, send a picture to webmaster@mangaworkshop.net and I will tell you if your style is right for the website.

3. About commenting

3.1 How to comment on artwork?
You are free to comment on artwork as you please. But here are some guidelines:
- No insulting: There is no need to insult someones artwork. If you have nothing useful to say, please, don't say anything at all.
- Keep the rosary to a minimum: Everyone loves to hear his/her artwork is "cool" or "beautiful", but just a "cool" will not help the artist become any better. - Give constructive comments: Try to point out the flaws of a piece of artwork to the artist in a non-insulting way. This will help the artist the most.

3.2 How do I, the artist, deal with comments on my artwork?
You are free to deal with the comment on your artwork as you please. But here are some guidelines:
- No insulting: There is no need to insult someones if (s)he doesn't like your work. Different people like different things. If the other insulted you first, either delete the comment or do not reply. Best thing to do is contact a moderator.
- Receiving constructive comments: If people point out flaws, that doesn't make your artwork bad and that doesn't mean the person hates your artwork. So do not feel offended if someone points out a flaw. Try to learn from it.

4. Mangaworkshop Policies

4.1 Inactive accounts
We want to keep Mangaworkshop a clean place, so inactive accounts will be deleted. An inactive account is an account that hasn't been used in over 90 days (3 months). If a member hasn't logged in for over 75 days (2.5 months) the member will receive an email with a warning that the account hasn't been used and will be deleted in 15 days (1/2 month). If a member hasn't logged in for over 90 days, his or her account and all the art will be deleted.

4.2 Multiple accounts
We do not allow multiple accounts. Mangaworkshop is not an archive, but a place to upload artwork, receive comments and get better at drawing. There is no need to have all of your artwork online. Only the newest pieces. So one account should be enough. If a moderator finds a double account, the newest account will be removed.

5. Contact
